Location & Timezone

Nomad friendly

We have teammates in 15 countries, 11 timezones and 42 cities (and counting!). As a member of our team, you will be invited to work wherever you're happiest and most productive.

Communication

?

We do our best to communicate asynchronously as much as possible so that everyone can be included without needing to be online at the same time. We rely on Paper by Dropbox to think through a lot of projects collaboratively!

4-Day Work Weeks

Since the early days, we’ve had a focus on building one of the most unique and fulfilling workplaces by rethinking a lot of traditional practices. In 2020, this resulted in our shift to a shorter week. The result has been incredibly positive in improving the overwhelming well being of our team (and also boosting their productivity!). Learn more about our 4-day work week.

Minimum Vacation

At least 3 weeks per year!

Parental Leave

16 weeks of family leave for all parents, fully paid.

Gatherings

?

We believe that meeting in person is super important for remote teams.

We’re a fully remote team and have been since our start. We’ve also known the importance of meeting in person since the team started growing. For that reason, we never go too long without finding a way to get Buffer teammates together.

There’s just something about meeting in person that you can’t replace with video chats. (Maybe with VR one day!)

We gather once a year for a company-wide meetup and each individual team also meets once a year for a "mini retreat".

Unity

?

Our team culture is intentionally built around helping us make meaningful connections with one another, so we do a lot of different things to focus on remote team building.

We have a set of "Buffer values" that help shape our team's overall spirit:

  1. Default to Transparency
  2. Cultivate Positivity
  3. Show Gratitude
  4. Practice Reflection
  5. Improve Consistently
  6. Act Beyond Ourselves

Believe it or not, these values come up in team conversation every day. Honestly, it's true! They're the core of our work culture and they dictate every decision we make.

We have an overwhelmingly-positive work culture. Instead of defaulting to complaining about the weather, we often start our conversations sharing good news or gratitude about something. That being said, we also actively work to make sure that our value of positivity isn’t resulting in artificial harmony, where a team sacrifices healthy conflict to maintain a misleading air of positivity.

For us, it’s not enough for a new hire to simply learn the job and do the work. Acclimating them and helping them find ways to uniquely contribute to our culture is incredibly important.
